NBA: Lakers “Out Of Magic?”

For NBA Fans who have been sleeping on the recent drama in “Laker Nation”, NBA Hall Of Famer Magic Johnson resigned from his position as the “President Of Basketball Operations” shortly before the Lakers last game of the 2018-2019 Season. To the casual NBA fan this move may have came as a surprise. However, those of us in the media world can sadly say that the writing was on the wall when Magic failed to land OKC’s Paul George during his summer of Free Agency. We also knew that once Magic failed to steal Anthony Davis From The New Orleans Pelicans. When you look at the Tampering Fines Magic Johnson accumulated over his 2 year tenure (Ben Simmons, Giannis Antetokounmpo) for simply wanting to be a Mentor towards future Superstars on other teams, you have to think that this clearly wasn’t the position for Magic Johnson to succeed. Let’s not forget that he had to move bad contacts left by Jim Buss in the post-Kobe era & successfully create Salary Cap Space to land 2 Elite superstars and Solid Role Players to return the Lakers to Championship contention.

Unfortunately, I believe Magic knew that he most likely wouldn’t be able to land that second Superstar to help Lebron James return to prominence. Injuries and lack of consistent Team Chemistry after the Anthony Davis Trade blew up destroyed the Lakers Playoff Chances this season and possibly derailed Magic’s Free Agency Prospects. No Superstar wants to deal with A Dysfunctional Front Office lacking leadership and a unified vision of success. Jeanie Buss & Rob Pelinka will have To rebuild this Failing Lakers Franchise From The ground up and repair the overall reputation across the league. In my opinion, If Lebron doesn’t apply heavy recruitment this summer, he may end his career in LA with no chance of bringing rings back to the Staples Center.
