NBA "Off The Wall"

The Washington Wizards (6-11) are currently 10th in the Eastern Conference. Point Guard John Wall is currently locked into a Max Contract Extension that will give him $40 Million/year for the next 5 years. This Contract also includes a 15% Trade Kicker which means that if John Wall gets traded, The Wizards have to pay him 15% of his Contract out of the gate. However, for the last couple seasons it’s been reported that not only has John Wall failed to show true leadership in his position, but other players like Shooting Guard Bradley Beal & Power Forward Markieff Morris have spoken out about the dysfunction spreading throughout the franchise. Head Coach Scott Brooks has been unable to communicate his style of coaching into John Wall’s style of iso-play basketball. Sports Analyst Max Kellerman sums it up into a simple conclusion: “The Wizards should have blown this team up 2 years ago”. Hypothetically, if the organization scrapped this roster at that time, they wouldn’t have given John Wall the unrealistic Max Contract he has now that nobody wants to pay. Small Forward Otto Porter Jr.’s Contract most likely wouldn’t be nearly as high as it is. The overall Team Chemistry possibly could have been saved with Coach Brooks leading the new era in our Nation’s Capital. Fast Forward to the 2018-2019 Season, GM Ernie Grunfield says “Everyone is open for trade possibilities.” What Grunfield doesn’t realize is the league is watching this team self-destruct from the locker room to the Capital One Arena. Team GM’s & Head Coaches are carefully waiting for the talent to slip between the cracks in Washington D.C. just so they can get the gifts without paying the potentially high bidding prices. Overall, The Washington Wizards need to destroy and rebuild. If they can move John Wall & Otto Porter Jr’s Contracts that could open up their Salary Cap significantly. However, the reality is this: Grunfield’s blind faith in the raw talent of his current roster has put his Wizards on the long road to recovery.
