Connecticut Sun light up the Fever

The Indiana Fever are in losing slump and yesterday's game was another unfortunate L, making it their third straight loss. This time it was against the visiting Connecticut Sun. Final score 76-63.

Tiffany Mitchell came out strong in the first quarter with 6 points all from the free throw line. In the first half, the Fever went 0-7 from the 3-point line and made franchise history of going 0-16 from the 3-point line. Shooter Kelsey Mitchell went 0-6 from the three-point line; needless to say this hurt the Fever's chances in a must-win game. The Fever did improve at the free throw line with 81 percent in yesterday's game.

Highlights of the game for the Fever include Candice Dupree surpassing Lisa Leslie's record on the all-time scoring list. In the 2nd quarter, Dupree was one point shy from breaking Lisa Leslie career scoring points. The moment arrived and Dupree moved to 6th place with a jumper at the 2:46 mark of the 2nd quarter. Erica Wheeler also picked up her 500th career assist, making her just the 5th undrafted free agent in #WNBA history to accomplish this + 1,000 points.

In the first half, the Sun dominated and finished the half with a nine-point lead. In the third quarter, it seemed promising for the Fever to make a push to get back within striking range, close to the 5:37 mark when they were down by just three points. The Sun were winning 42-39. Coach Curt Miller called a quick timeout. At the 4-minute mark, the Suns were now on an 8-0 run.

In fact, it got worse for the Fever by the end of the third quarter with the Sun now boasting a 19 point lead. Again, the Fever managed to cut down the lead to 11 by the 2-minute mark of the 4th quarter. However, Jonquel Jones was unstoppable with 26 points, 2 assists, and 8 rebounds for the game. What helped Connecticut win was points in the paint with 32 and their biggest lead of 21.

In conclusion, the Suns had a better field goal percentage and 3-point percentage. The Connecticut Sun are now 11-6 in the season and Indiana Fever now sit at 6-12.

Candice Dupree & Erica Wheeler were both selected to be All-Stars this year!

Dupree is now a 7x all-star and Wheeler celebrates her first.

The Washington Mystics will visit the Fever Friday, July 19th, tipoff at 7pm ET. Watch live on WNDY & CBS Sports Network.
